During the week ending July 17, average hot rolled coil (HRC) prices in the Chinese domestic market have edged up slightly, while activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average HRC prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, HRC futures prices at Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) have increased, exerting a positive influence on HRC prices in the spot market. However, transaction activity has not shown any significant improvement and demand will continue to be on the slack side due to the hot weather conditions in China. It is thought that HRC prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.
