Global crude steel production in February this year decreased by one percent year on year to 142.4 million mt, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
In the January-February period this year, global crude steel production decreased by 0.8 percent year on year to 297.8 million mt.
In February, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 106.6 million mt, up three percent, with China’s estimated output at 80.1 million mt, up 5.6 percent, 6.9 million mt produced by Japan, decreasing by 5.3 percent, 10.0 million mt produced by India, decreasing by one percent, and 5.2 million mt produced by South Korea, rising by 1.1 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
EU-27 countries produced 10.5 million mt of crude steel in February, down by 12.6 percent year on year. In the given period, Germany’s output was three million mt, down 6.9 percent year on year.
Turkey produced 2.1 million mt of crude steel in February, with a 28.9 percent decrease compared to the same month in the previous year. The CIS registered a crude steel output of 6.4 million mt, dropping by 21.3 percent on year-on-year basis, with Russia’s estimated output at 5.6 million mt, down 8.6 percent year on year.
In North America, in February, crude steel output totaled 8.3 million mt, falling by 5.5 percent, with the US producing six million mt, falling by 5.3 percent, both year on year. Crude steel output in South America in February amounted to 3.2 million mt, decreasing by 3.1 percent compared to the same month in the previous year, with Brazil’s output totaling 2.5 million mt, falling by 6.7 percent year on year.
In the given month, Africa produced 1.1 million mt of crude steel, down by 11.9 percent year on year. In the Middle East, crude steel output totaled 3.5 million mt, rising by 11.5 percent, with Iran’s estimated output at 2.4 million mt, increasing by 14.6 percent, both year on year.
