Global crude steel production in January this year decreased by 7.1 percent year on year and increased by 0.8 percent month on month to 127.72 million metric tons, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
In January, crude steel output in China amounted to 63.2 million mt, down by 7.8 percent, with 8.7 million mt produced by Japan, down 2.8 percent, 7.4 million mt produced by India, decreasing by 1.2 percent, and 5.7 million mt produced by South Korea, declining by 4.5 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
In January, Germany's output was 3.6 million mt, declining by two percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output totaled 1.8 million mt, down 5.3 percent year on year, and France's crude steel output amounted to 1.1 million mt, decreasing by 11.9 percent year on year.
Turkey produced 2.6 million metric tons of crude steel in January, with a 0.8 percent increase year on year. Iran's crude steel production in the given month amounted to 1.3 million mt, down 4.8 percent year on year. In January, Russia produced 5.5 million mt, down by 10.6 percent year on year, and Ukraine produced 1.9 million mt, rising 3.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In the given month, crude steel output in the US totaled 6.6 million mt, down by 8.8 percent, while Mexico produced 1.5 million mt of crude steel, down by nine percent, both on year-on-year basis. Crude steel output in Brazil in January this year amounted to 2.4 million mt, down 17.9 percent year on year.
