Austrian steelmaker voestalpine has announced that Böhler-Uddeholm Canada Ltd., a part of its special steel division, has acquired the Canadian company Sturdell Industries Inc. (Sturdell), further expanding its market position in North America. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
Sturdell which specializes in the machining of mold steel has another site in the US, in Rochester, New York. Both sites of the company are in close vicinity to the existing sales offices of voestalpine's special steel division, which will enable both companies to optimize capacity utilization and cost structure.
Voestalpine is also implementing a substantial investment project at its existing Canadian locations to expand its facilities for heat treatment and surface refinement.
