US steel mill shipments down 4.9 percent in October

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has reported that in the month of October 2024 US steel mills shipped 6,987,092 net tons, a 4.9 percent decrease from the 7,346,373 net tons shipped in October 2023.

Shipments were down 1.4 percent from the 7,083,141 net tons shipped in the previous month, September.

Shipments year-to-date in 2024 are 72,283,207 net tons, down 3.7 percent compared to shipments of 75,080,374 net tons in the first ten months of 2023.

A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2024 to the first ten months of 2023 shows the following changes: cold rolled sheet, up four percent; corrosion-resistant steel, unchanged; and hot rolled steel, down six percent.
