US steel imports fall 4.6 percent in February

According to US preliminary census data, US monthly steel imports in February 2017 decreased 4.6 percent from January (census data) to total 2,358,100 mt, representing a 25 percent market share. A year-on-year comparison shows an 18.0 percent increase. In terms of value, US steel imports in February totaled $1.65 billion, compared to $1.73 billion in January and $1.41 billion in February 2016.
 
Top sources for US steel imports in February include: Canada, with 442,877 mt; Brazil, with 343,039 mt; Mexico, with 237,885 mt; Korea, with 237,553 mt; and Turkey, with 178,207 mt.
 
Major steel products imported in February include blooms, billets and slab at a combined 566,823 mt; HDG, at 234,204 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 180,786 mt; OCTG, at 178,396 mt; rebar, at 148,453 mt; and line pipe, at 132,012 mt.
