US steel exports rise 1.1 percent in February

According to US export data, monthly steel exports in February increased 1.1 percent from January to total 750,750 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 6.2 percent increase. In terms of value, US steel exports in February totaled $950.1 million, compared to $908.4 million in January and $902.8 million in February 2016.
 
Steel exports to Canada in February decreased 3.2 percent from the preceding month to 357,714 mt, and increased 0.4 percent from February 2016. Exports to Mexico increased by 3.1 percent month-on-month to 310,546 mt, which is up 15.8 percent from the same month a year ago. 
 
Other top destinations for US steel exports in February include: Belgium, at 7,545 mt; India, at 7,240 mt; Italy, at 6,688 mt; China, at 5,271 mt; and Germany, at 3,699 mt.
 
Major steel products exported in February include HDG, at 107,116 mt; cut-length plates, at 78,427 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 61,313 mt; plates in coils, at 57,597 mt; and cold rolled sheets, at 50,938 mt.
