US steel exports drop 2.4 percent in November

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in November 2018 decreased 2.4 percent from October to total 558,661 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 30.2 percent decrease. In terms of value, US steel exports in November totaled $824.9 million, compared to $868.2 million in October and $1.07 billion in November 2017.

Steel exports to Canada in November decreased 3.9 percent from the preceding month to 240,342 mt, and decreased 38.7 percent from November 2017. Exports to Mexico decreased by a marginal 0.1 percent month-on-month to 263,769 mt, which is down 13.3 percent from the same month a year ago.

Other top destinations for US steel exports in November include: India, with 5,069 mt; China, with 4,109 mt; Pakistan, with 2,608 mt; Italy, with 2,433 mt; and Korea, with 2,200 mt.

Major steel products exported in November include HDG, at 96,041 mt; cut-length plates, at 70,206 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 43,685 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 43,094 mt; and hot rolled bars, at 29,803 mt.
