US steel exports drop 0.8 percent in October

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in October decreased 0.8 percent from September to total 812,729 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 16.9 percent increase. In terms of value, US steel exports in October totaled $1.06 billion, compared to $1.04 billion in September and $912.2 million in October 2016.

Steel exports to Canada in October increased 0.8 percent from the preceding month to 391,588 mt, and increased 16.4 percent from October 2016. Exports to Mexico decreased by 2.8 percent month-on-month to 317,599 mt, which is up 11.4 percent from the same month a year ago. 

Other top destinations for US steel exports in October include: Italy, with 15,209 mt; China, with 9,704 mt; India, with 8,219 mt; Honduras, with 7,741 mt; and Malta, with 5,872 mt.

Major steel products exported in October include cut-length plates, at 103,163 mt; HDG, at 102,415 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 74,167 mt; heavy structural shapes, at 50,156 mt; and cold rolled sheets, at 49,349 mt.
