US standard rail exports down 39.1 percent in September

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of standard rail totaled 8,516 mt in September 2018, down 39.1 percent from August but up 287.9 percent from September 2017 levels. By value, standard rail exports totaled $6.7 million in September, compared to $11.8 million in the previous month and $2.3 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most standard rail to Mexico in September with 6,430 mt, compared to 7,646 mt in August and 720 mt in September 2017. Other major destinations include Canada, with 1,053 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US standard rail exports in September.
