US rebar imports up 98.9 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 110,967 mt in September 2017, up 98.9 percent from August but down 26.9 percent from September 2016 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $55.7 million in September 2017, compared to $26.1million in the previous month and $62.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Spain in September, with 31,764 mt, compared to zero tonnage in both August and September 2016. Other top sources of imported rebar in September include Turkey, with 25,754 mt; Italy, with 22,924 mt; Brazil, with 16,621 mt; Colombia, with 7,719 mt; and Mexico, with 3,597 mt.
