US rebar imports up 47.2 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 168,164 mt in April 2018, up 47.2 percent from March and up 133.9 percent from April 2017 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $97.2 million in April 2018, compared to $65.8 million in the previous month and $32.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in April, with 63,873 mt, compared to 67,011 mt in March and 62,839 mt in April 2017. Other top sources of imported rebar in April include Italy, with 22,292 mt; Vietnam, with 15,030 mt; Russia, with 14,932 mt; Mexico, with 14,925 mt; and Peru, with 12,112 mt.
