US rebar imports up 105.6 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 158,001 mt in April 2023, up 105.6 percent from March and up 69.9 percent from April 2022 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $107.8 million in April 2023, compared to $53.6 million in March and $80.2 million in April 2022.

The US imported the most rebar from Algeria in April, with 69,787 mt, compared to 39,980 mt in March and 21,424 mt in April 2022. Other top sources of imported rebar in April include Mexico, with 19,166 mt; Egypt with 17,094 mt; Turkey, with 16,750 mt; and Canada, with 9,727 mt.
