According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 199,112 mt in January 2017, up 54.2 percent from December and up 60.0 percent from January 2016 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $80.6 million in January 2017, compared to $49.5 million in the previous month and $45.1 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in January, with 179,847 mt, compared to 100,453 mt in December and 102,355 mt in January 2016. Other top sources of imported rebar in January include Japan, with 12,053 mt; India, with 5,131 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 1,637 mt.
