According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 116,371 mt in January 2019, up 240.8 percent from December and up 33.9 percent from January 2018 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $63.7 million in January 2019, compared to $19.0 million in the previous month and $46.7 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most rebar from Italy in January, with 42,290 mt, compared to 13,014 mt in December and 17.2 mt in January 2018. Other top sources of imported rebar in January include Bulgaria, with 15,466 mt; Spain, with 15,337 mt; Vietnam, with 14,522 mt; South Africa, with 10,283 mt; and Brazil, with 5,729 mt.
