US rebar imports surge up 214.6 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 136,870 mt in July 2018, up 214.6 percent from June and up 31.6 percent from July 2017 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $80.7 million in July 2018, compared to $26.0 million in the previous month and $50.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Italy in July, with 72,792 mt, compared to 15,139 mt in June and 6,486 mt in July 2017. Other top sources of imported rebar in July include Spain, with 23,964 mt; Turkey, with 10,746 mt; Bulgaria, with 10,271 mt; Portugal, with 7,111 mt; and Greece, with 5,936 mt.
