US rebar imports down 3.9 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 131,542 mt in August 2018, down 3.9 percent from July but up 135.8 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $74.2 million in August 2018, compared to $80.7 million in the previous month and $26.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in August, with 60,578 mt, compared to 10,746 mt in July and 9,965 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported rebar in August include Italy, with 22,838 mt; Spain, with 18,197 mt; Mexico, with 8,612 mt; Dominican Republic, with 7,382 mt; and Morocco, with 6,271 mt.
