US rebar imports down 20.5 percent in October

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 55,764 mt in October 2019, down 20.5 percent from September but up 17.7 percent from October 2018 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $28.5 million in October 2019, compared to $36.4 million in the previous month and $29.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Spain in October, with 25,041 mt, compared to 7,781 mt in September and 7,146 mt in October 2018. Other top sources of imported rebar in October include Mexico, with 13,121 mt; Turkey, with 12,438 mt; Canada, with 2,072 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 1,809 mt.
