US rebar imports down 16.9 percent in February

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 96,683 mt in February 2019, down 16.9 percent from January but up 166.4 percent from February 2018 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $51.9 million in February 2018, compared to $63.7 million in the previous month and $19.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Italy in February, with 40,924 mt, compared to 42,290 mt in January and zero tonnage in February 2018. Other top sources of imported rebar in February include Bulgaria, with 27,264 mt; Algeria, with 10,092 mt; South Africa, with 9,845 mt; Mexico, with 3,153 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 2,277 mt.
