According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 73,708 mt in February 2020, down 3.9 percent from January and down 12.4 percent from February 2019 levels. By value plates in coil imports totaled $45.5 million in February 2020, compared to $44.2 million in the previous month and $62.9 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in February, with 58,274 mt, compared to 69,556 mt in January and 45,481 mt in February 2019. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in February include Korea, with 7,052 mt; China, with 3,264 mt; Mexico, with 1,269 mt; and Germany, with 1,068 mt.
