US plates in coil imports down 25.1 percent in February

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 84,140 mt in February 2019, down 25.1 percent from January and down 0.6 percent from February 2018 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $62.9 million in February 2018, compared to $86.8 million in the previous month and $59.0 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in February, with 45,481 mt, compared to 61,634 mt in January and 52,930 mt in February 2018. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in February include Germany, with 13,450 mt; Korea, with 11,288 mt; Turkey, with 4,504 mt; Mexico, with 3,610 mt; and Japan, with 2,370 mt.
