US OCTG imports rise 9.8 percent in January

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of oil country tubular goods (OCTG) totaled 165,124 mt in January 2017, up 9.8 percent from December and up 87.9 percent from January 2016 levels. By value, OCTG imports totaled $140.9 million in January 2017, compared to $136.5 million in the previous month and $110.5 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most OCTG from Korea in January, with 78,961 mt, compared to 46,588 mt in December and 16,822 mt in January 2016. Other top sources of imported OCTG in January include Mexico, with 35,690 mt; Argentina, with 11,154 mt; Taiwan, with 7,574 mt; Austria, with 5,727 mt; and the Philippines, with 5,638 mt.
