US mechanical tubing imports down 2.6 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of mechanical tubing totaled 47,134 mt in August 2018, down 2.6 percent from July and down 11.5 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, mechanical tubing imports totaled $73.8 million in August 2018, compared to $71.1 million in the previous month and $73.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most mechanical tubing from Mexico in August, with 11,975 mt, compared to 13,143 mt in July and 13,289 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported mechanical tubing in August include Canada, with 6,993 mt; Germany, with 4,788 mt; China, with 3,663 mt; and Romania, with 2,346 mt.
