US line pipe imports rise 38.6 percent in December

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 112,533 mt in December, up 38.6 percent from November and up 44.4 percent from December 2015 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $91.9 million in December 2016, compared to $68.0 million in the previous month and $99.2 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most line pipe from Korea in December, with 32,282 mt, compared to 23,536 mt in November and 14,602 mt in December 2015. Other top sources of imported line pipe in December include Greece, with 30,161 mt; Germany, with 11,464 mt; Canada, with 10,412 mt; Ukraine, with 5,866 mt; and Mexico, with 4,375 mt.
 
For the full-year 2016, line pipe imports to the US totaled 1,230,095 mt, down 46.2 percent from 2015. By value, US line pipe imports in 2016 totaled $1.03 billion, compared to $2.41 billion in 2015.
