US iron and steel scrap exports up 17.3 in October

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,622,444 mt in October 2018, a 17.3 percent increase month-on-month and a 5.9 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in October with 230,484 mt, down 34.5 percent month-on-month and down 21.9 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in October 2018 include: Canada, with 221,905 mt; Taiwan, with 196,375 mt; Vietnam, with 158,849 mt; and Korea, with 144,867 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $525.8 million in October 2018, a 16.5 percent increase compared to September and a 0.7 percent increase compared to October 2017.
