US iron and steel scrap exports down 2 percent in September

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,292,473 mt in September, a 2.0 percent decrease month-on-month but a 15.1 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in September with 551,972 mt, which increased 49.4 percent month-on-month and increased 106.1 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in September include: China, with 118,973 mt; Bangladesh, with 92,179 mt; Mexico, with 82,818 mt; and Taiwan, with 79,734 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $451.3 million in September, a 5.0 percent increase compared to August and a 48.0 percent increase compared to September 2016.
