US hot rolled bar imports up 17.3 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 58,095 mt in March 2020, up 17.3 percent from February but down 8.3 percent from March 2019 levels. By value, hot rolled bar imports totaled $52.7 million in March 2020, compared to $44.0 million in the previous month and $60.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in March, with 26,200 mt, compared to 25,796 mt in February and 25,366 mt in March 2019. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in March include Japan, with 12,591 mt; Mexico, with 5,545 mt; Germany, with 2,960 mt; and China, with 2,899 mt.
