US HDG imports fall 17 percent in February

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of HDG sheets and strip totaled 234,204 mt in February 2017, down 17.0 percent from January but up 9.9 percent from February 2016 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $198.8 million in February 2017, compared to $230.8 million in the previous month and $160.1 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most HDG from Canada in February, with 75,561 mt, compared to 81,969 mt in January and 68,743 mt in February 2016. Other top sources of imported HDG in February include Taiwan, with 23,636 mt; Vietnam, with 20,677 mt; South Africa, with 14,693 mt; Thailand, with 13,219 mt; and Brazil, with 11,210 mt.
