US drawn wire imports up 0.6 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of drawn wire totaled 54,957 mt in May 2019, up 0.6 percent from April but down 13.6 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, drawn wire imports totaled $63.6 million in May 2019, compared to $65.3 million in the previous month and $76.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most drawn wire from Mexico in May, with 15,340 mt, compared to 13,177 mt in April and 17,053 mt in May 2018. Other top sources of imported drawn wire in May include China, with 12,410 mt; Canada, with 9,504 mt; Korea, with 3,690 mt; and Japan, with 3,345 mt.
