US drawn wire imports down 8.9 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of drawn wire totaled 48,327 mt in August 2019, down 8.9 percent from July and down 7.9 percent from August 2018 levels. By value, drawn wire imports totaled $57.3 million in August 2019, compared to $62.1 million in the previous month and $66.0 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most drawn wire from Mexico in August, with 12,932 mt, compared to 13,725 mt in July and 8,970 mt in August 2018. Other top sources of imported drawn wire in August include China, with 11,700 mt; Canada, with 10,190 mt; Korea, with 3,536 mt; and Japan, with 2,975 mt.
