According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of drawn wire totaled 44,484 mt in December 2018, down 2.6 percent from November. By value, drawn wire imports totaled $55.9 million in December 2018, compared to $57.9 million in the previous month.
The US imported the most drawn wire from China in December, with 12,200 mt, compared to 10,395 mt in November. Other top sources of imported drawn wire in December include Mexico, with 8,949 mt; Canada, with 7,310 mt; Japan, with 3,124 mt; Korea, with 2,750 mt; and Vietnam, with 2,580 mt.
For the full-year 2018, US drawn wire imports totaled 645,242 mt, down 10.9 percent from 2017 totals. By value, drawn wire imports totaled $778.8 million in 2018, compared to $768.6 million in 2017.
