US cut-length plate imports down 24.8 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cut-length plate totaled 43,039 mt in May 2019, down 24.8 percent from April and down 29.6 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, cut-length plate imports totaled $39.0 million in May 2019, compared to $50.1 million in the previous month and $55.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most cut-length plate from Korea in May, with 19,586 mt, compared to 32,924 mt in April and 1,872 mt in May 2018. Other top sources of imported cut-length plate in May include Canada, with 8,086 mt; Ukraine, with 4,952 mt; Sweden, with 2,236 mt; and Denmark, with 2,067 mt.
