Ukraine-based Kametstal has announced that it has started a major overhaul of blast furnace No. 9, aimed at ensuring long-term operational reliability and stable production output.

The overhaul includes maintenance and replacement of critical equipment that can only be serviced during a furnace shutdown.

Among the main tasks is the replacement of the small cone of the rotating burden distributor in the furnace charging system, manufactured by Metinvest Machinery. Installation and assembly are being carried out by Kametstal’s metallurgical equipment repair specialists.

The scope of the overhaul also includes:

  • Replacement of components in the casting yard, including equipment for opening and closing iron tapholes
  • Maintenance of charging systems, hot blast stoves and dust collection units
  • Inspection and repair of electrical and energy equipment across all furnace sections

Part of broader maintenance program

According to the company, the overhaul of blast furnace No. 9 is a key element of the ironmaking shop’s 2026 maintenance program.

The work is aimed at maintaining stable furnace productivity, which is critical for meeting production targets and ensuring the efficient operation of the entire facility.
