Ukrainian steelmaker Kametstal Iron and Steel Works, a subsidiary of Ukrainian mining and steel producing group Metinvest, has announced that it has expanded its in-house repair capabilities as part of efforts to optimize costs and improve operational efficiency. The initiative focuses on enhancing the reliability of sintering equipment, a critical component in the steel production process.

The company’s metallurgical equipment repair shop has broadened its range of autonomous restoration services, allowing it to refurbish key replaceable components used in the sintering shop. This approach is expected to extend equipment service life and improve production stability.

New solutions for drive gear components

As part of the expansion, specialists at the Central recycling and recyclable materials plant have introduced repair services for two additional types of drive gears used in the pallet feed drum of sintering machines. These components play a crucial role in maintaining consistent machine performance.

Investment in advanced machinery

To support the initiative, Kametstal has upgraded its technical infrastructure by installing a modern CNC cylindrical grinding machine. The equipment is designed to restore circular components such as shafts and rollers with high precision.

The new machine is scheduled to become operational in April, initially focusing on processing drum shafts for the sintering shop. Enhanced grinding accuracy and strict adherence to surface specifications are expected to significantly improve the durability and performance of key production components.
