In September this year, Turkey's steel imports increased by 44.4 percent year on year to 1.72 million mt, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the given month, Turkey's billet imports totaled 547,000 mt, up 108.7 percent, while slab imports amounted to 293,000 mt, rising by 109.2 percent, both year on year. In September, flat steel imports totaled 680,000 mt, rising by 14.4 percent, while long steel imports amounted to 92,000 mt, down 21.5 percent, and pipe imports increased by 86.4 percent to 75,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.
During the January-September period, Turkey's steel imports increased by 41 percent year on year to 14.17 million mt. In the given period, Turkey's billet imports moved up by 59.9 percent to 3.61 million mt, while its slab imports rose by 124.2 percent to 2.39 million mt, both year on year. Also, in the first nine months of this year, Turkey's flat steel imports increased by 26.6 percent to 6.28 million mt, its long steel imports moved up by 3.4 percent to 1.15 million mt, and steel pipe imports totaled 387,000 mt, up 19.4 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
