Turkey's steel pipe exports total 1.95 million mt in 2014

The Turkish steel pipe industry closed 2014 have achieved its targets for the year, Turkey's steel pipe exports increased by 4.9 percent to 1.95 million metric tons, while the value of these exports totaled $1.62 billion, decreasing by 0.71 percent, both on year-on-year basis, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Steel Pipe Manufacturers Association (CEBID). CEBID also stated that the industry has succeeded in maintaining its 4 million mt production level, despite political tensions and problems in its export markets.
 
In 2014, the largest export markets for Turkish steel pipes were Iraq, the US and the UK. In the given period, Turkish steel pipe exports to Iraq decreased by 20 percent to 348,000 mt, while its exports to the US rose by 17 percent to 331,000 mt and exports to the UK increased by 45 percent to 240,000 mt, all year on year. Meanwhile, in the given period, Turkey's steel pipe exports to Israel increased by 125 percent year on year to 87,000 mt.
 
On the other hand, in December last year, Turkey's steel pipe exports increased by 27.84 percent, to 206,221 mt, while the value of these exports was $170.65 million, up 25.54 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
 
"As for 2015, our goal is to produce 4.5 million mt and to export two million mt of steel pipes. However, it will be hard to reach $7.9 billion of steel pipe exports in 2023 unless our raw material supply problem is resolved. Therefore, the customs duty on Turkey's imports of flat steel, the raw material in steel pipe production, should be removed and Turkish producers should have the opportunity to supply flat products from the global markets," said Mehmet Zeren, secretary general of CEBID.
