In October this year, Turkey's steel imports increased by 42.2 percent year on year to 1.63 million mt, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the given month, Turkey's billet imports totaled 435,000 mt, up 153.3 percent, while slab imports amounted to 241,000 mt, rising by six percent, both year on year. In October, flat steel imports totaled 719,000 mt, rising by 25 percent, while long steel imports amounted to 719,000 mt, down 25.7 percent, and pipe imports increased by 61.1 percent to 53,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.
During the January-October period, Turkey's steel imports increased by 41.1 percent year on year to 15.8 million mt. In the given period, Turkey's billet imports moved up by 59.9 percent to 3.61 million mt, while its slab imports rose by 103.5 percent to 2.64 million mt, both year on year. Also, in the first ten months of this year, Turkey's flat steel imports increased by 26.4 percent to seven million mt, its long steel imports moved up by 5.4 percent to 1.29 million mt, and steel pipe imports totaled 439,000 mt, up 23.2 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
