Turkey’s steel billet imports down 5.85 percent in 2014

In December last year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume decreased by 8.8 percent year on year to 354,870 metric tons, and increased by 16.07 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $201.8 million, down 3.7 percent year on year and up 120.5 percent compared to the previous month.


 
Meanwhile, in 2014 Turkey imported 2.93 million mt of billet and bloom, down 5.85 percent, with a value of $1.6 billion, decreasing by 7.03 percent, both year on year.

In 2014, Turkey imported 1.48 million mt of billet and bloom from Ukraine, 6.77 percent lower year on year, with Ukraine ranking first among Turkey's main billet and bloom import sources, ahead of Russia which supplied 920,376 mt in the given period, down 9.07 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in December this year Russia was the leading source for Turkey's billet and bloom imports, supplying 154,164 mt, down 20.54 percent year on year.
