Turkey’s pig iron imports down 16.3 percent in January-August

In August this year, Turkey’s pig iron imports amounted to 42,908 mt, down by 69.5 percent year on year and by 68.1 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey’s pig iron imports in the given month declined by 73.9 percent year on year and by 65.6 percent month on month to $19.74 million.

Meanwhile, in the January-August period this year, Turkey’s pig iron imports amounted to 869,768 mt, down 16.3 percent year on year, while the revenue generated by these imports totaled $406.99 million, decreasing by 37.5 percent compared to the same period of 2022.

In the given period, Turkey imported 621,452 mt of pig iron from Russia, down 8.2 percent year on year. Russia ranked first among Turkey’s pig iron import sources in the same period, followed by Ukraine which supplied 76,580 mt.
