Turkey’s billet imports down 49.6 percent in 2017

In December last year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by 13.5 percent year on year to 254,055 mt, up 89.7 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $131.3 million, up 56 percent year on year and increasing by 81.5 percent compared to the previous month.

In 2017, Turkey's billet import volume amounted to 2.28 million mt, falling by 49.6 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 30.4 percent to $1.03 billion, both year on year.
 
In the given period, Turkey imported 875,659 mt of billet and bloom from Ukraine, down 37.84 percent year on year, with Ukraine ranking as Turkey's leading billet and bloom import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 804,041 mt in the given period.
