Japan’s Toyota Motor Corporation will build its third vehicle manufacturing facility in India, located in the western state of Maharashtra, as part of its expansion strategy and to meet rising demand, a company statement said on Tuesday, May 12.
The new factory, to be located in the Bidkin Industrial Area in Maharashtra, will have an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles and is scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2029, the company said in the statement. The company, however, has not disclosed any investment data for the new project.
Toyota seeks to strengthen its production footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing automobile markets, while also positioning India as a manufacturing and export hub for surrounding regions in Asia and West Asia, it said.
Toyota said the upcoming facility would help the company respond more flexibly to future demand growth and changing market conditions in India and nearby markets.
