Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that it has completed a major overhaul program at its converter steel production facility at the Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works (CherMK), the company’s key asset.
The works, completed in line with the equipment shutdown schedule, covered converter No. 3, ladle furnace No. 1, the steel vacuum unit, and continuous steel casting units No. 2 and No. 5. Severstal stated that the program is aimed at reducing downtime, improving production efficiency and ensuring equipment reliability.
The total cost of the overhaul amounted to RUB843 million ($11.5 million). According to the company, the project will also support better working conditions, product quality and compliance with environmental standards.
Severstal added that its own divisions and key contractors from the Vologda Region, where CherMK is located, were involved in the repair works.
