Peruvian iron ore export prices in May reached the lowest level so far in 2017, according to data released by the country’s central bank, BCRP.
According to BCRP, iron ore export prices in May declined to $35.5/mt, from $39.2/mt in April. Despite the month-on-month decline, the country’s iron ore export prices in May rose 17.5 percent, year-on-year, from $30.2/mt.
Peruvian iron ore export prices have been on a declining trend since January, when the commodity’s export price reached $48.1/mt. It then fell to $43.5/mt, $43.2/mt, $39.2/mt and $35.5/mt in the months of February, March, April and May, respectively.
Peruvian iron ore export volumes in May declined to 1.2 million mt, from 1.6 million mt in May 2016, and from 1.5 million mt in April 2017.
