New car registrations in Germany up 17 percent in March

In March this year, new passenger car registrations in Germany rose by 17.0 percent to 281,400 units compared to the same month of 2022, according to the data released by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). Meanwhile, in the first three months of this year, new passenger car registrations moved up by seven percent year on year to 666,900 units.

According to the VDA, in March new registrations of electric vehicles decreased by one percent year on year to 60,940 units. In the January-March period this year, new registrations of electric vehicles amounted to 132,400 units, moving down by 13.0 percent year on year.

In March, German passenger car manufacturers produced 441,900 units, up 67.0 percent compared to March 2022. In the first three months of the year, passenger car manufacturers produced 1,148,000 units, up 39.0 percent from the same period of last year.
