Malaysia has announced that it has initiated an antidumping (AD) duty investigation regarding electrolytic tinplate imports from China and South Korea.

The application filed by domestic tinplate producer Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (PERSTIMA) Berhad claimed that the products in question are dumped in Malaysia, causing material injury to the domestic market.

The application also suggested that electrolytic tinplate imports from the abovementioned countries have increased in absolute terms, adding that the Malaysian industry has suffered from price undercutting, price suppression, low productivity and capacity, decline in profitability and inability to raise capital.

The good subject to investigation are currently classified under Harmonized System Code Number 72130.12.200.
