EU Q2 quotas immediately exceeded across multiple steel products

Within the first week of the new EU quota period between April 1 and June 30, some of the import quotas for certain steel products allocated for India, China, Vietnam, Turkey and Algeria have been exceeded, while over 70 percent of quotas for some steel products have been used up.

Looking at the exceeded quotas, India has exceeded the quotas of 225,305 mt for HRC (1A), 31,765 mt for stainless bars and light sections and 5,886 mt for seamless stainless tubes, with 349,580 mt, 53,355 mt and 8,972 mt of the given products respectively waiting at EU ports. The country has also exceeded the quota of 7,428 mt for tin mill products allocated under “other countries”, with 10,711 mt of the given product waiting for customs clearance. China has exhausted its quotas of 128,348 mt for metallic coated sheets (4B), 34,427 mt for other seamless pipes, and 7,006 mt for sheet piling, with 294,920 mt, 46,470 mt and 7,029 mt of the given products respectively waiting at EU ports.

Regarding the quotas allocated for Turkey, the country has exceeded its quotas of 98,153 mt for wire rod, 84,033 mt for hollow sections, 14,946 mt for large welded tubes (25B), with 131,157 mt, 112,679 mt and 26,572 mt of the given products respectively waiting for customs clearance. In addition, the country has also exceeded the quota of 7,428 mt for tin mill products allocated under “other countries”, with 10,324 mt of the given product waiting at EU ports.

As for the quotas allocated for “other countries”, the 104,884 mt quota for metallic coated sheets (4B) has been exceeded, with 112,532 mt of the given products waiting for customs clearance. Vietnam has exceeded its 10,725 mt quota for organic coated sheets, allocated under “other countries”, with 17,590 mt of the given products waiting for customs clearance.
