International industrial and metals group Liberty House has announced that its Hartlepool pipe plant in northeast England has secured a multi-million-pound order from UK-headquartered subsea engineering, construction and services company Subsea 7 to provide large diameter (LD) steel pipes for the Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil’s Snorre Expansion Project off the coast of Norway.

Liberty stated that the contract, which amounts to over 13,000 mt of production, will provide work at the Hartlepool plant’s 84-inch mill for nearly a year and is the first in an expected series of new orders for the plant, now making a strong comeback following its acquisition by the Liberty House Group in September 2017. The pipe for the Subsea 7 order will be the largest diameter ever produced at the mill.

The contract is the largest secured by the Hartlepool plant since Liberty purchased the 42” and 84” submerged arc-welded pipe mills from Tata Steel UK last year.

Meanwhile, the company expects new orders soon that will boost production substantially over the coming months at Liberty Pipes Hartlepool’s 42-inch pipe mill.
