Liberty Steel UK names new CEO

UK-based steel producer Liberty Steel announced that the company has appointed Cornelius Louwrens as new chief executive officer, effective February 2019. Mr. Louwrens currently serves as CEO of NBH Plate, part of the international NLMK Group and is one of the European metals industry’s most prominent figures. He will succeed the company’s current CEO Jon Bolton who will continue in his role as Liberty’s international development director.

Louwrens has over 20 years' experience in senior positions at some of the world’s largest steel companies, such as ArcelorMittal and Tata.

He will be responsible both for the performance and sustainability of the existing Liberty Steel UK portfolio and for leading the group towards its target of building 5 million mt of Greensteel production capacity. Louwrens will also provide support for the company’s global growth strategy in the steel sector.
