Japan’s steel scrap exports up 9.1 percent in January-September

In September this year, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 524,666 mt, decreasing by 15.9 percent compared to 623,815 mt in the same month of the previous year, according to customs statistics. In the January-September period this year, the country exported 5.1 million mt of scrap, increasing by 9.1 percent year on year.

During the given period, South Korea was the biggest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 2,139,877 mt, down by 10.0 percent year on year. South Korea was followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, importing 1,118,981 mt and 741,884 mt of scrap, up 6.6 percent and up 77.8 percent year on year, respectively.    

Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Bangladesh amounted to 320,560 mt in the January-September period this year, up from 269,826 mt in the same period of the previous year.
