Japan’s steel scrap exports up 6.8 percent in January-April

In April this year, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 560,176 mt, declining by 15.7 percent compared to 664,496 mt in the same month of the previous year, according to customs statistics. In the January-April period this year, the country exported 2.24 million mt of scrap, increasing by 6.8 percent year on year.

During the given period, South Korea was the biggest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 962,294 mt, down by 21.0 percent year on year. South Korea was followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, importing 576,080 mt and 281,870 mt of scrap, up 31.2 percent and up 95.8 percent, respectively, year on year.

Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Bangladesh amounted to 97,496 mt in the January-April period this year, down from 111,549 mt in the same period of the previous year.
